Do you remember the day, so very long ago, so long ago it was….
Do you remember that day and the lovely night
When we made our special vows
My dress so white as snow in the night
Your vest as blue as the sky in twilight
And in my hands…. there was heather, sage and rose
We were our finest show, when we made our special vows
With heather, sage and rose….
The wind it was heavy with thunder and storm
The rain fell from the sky
But suddenly the clouds went away
And the sun shone through to brighten the day
And the light at once … went from cold to warm
And my daddy, yes, he did shed a tear
As a ladybird touched his hand
And everyone smiled, there was music to hear
Nothing to worry, and nothing to fear
And the sandglass … was still so full of sand
Oh, what a beautiful day it was
So much love and so much joy
And late at night, when we tucked in our bed
And held each other tight, as we laid our heads
Future was bright … and life was like a toy
So many dreams we had back then, so much love we had to give,
enough to fill the world … enough to make us live
But the days have passed and the sand has too,
And life it changes between laughter and fear
And love is something, that we must always woo
But our minds are so simple, it can end in tears
So the broken bowl … must be mended with glue
Now your hair is turning grey and white
And I’m a woman so old
Though days have passed, and a thousand nights
Your heart’s still warm and your eyes still bright
And still you keep me … from the cold
We have had our little share of the sun
And we have fought both storms and rain
From the golden hours with joy and care
To the darkest times with bleak despair
Much we have lost … but also much we gained
And we have fought each other
and we have fought ourselves
And the sea has been rough and calm
But still you are here, my truest love
And still I reach for you at night … to keep me warm
We were our finest show, when we made our special vows
With heather, sage and rose….
So many dreams we had back then, so much love we had to give,
enough to fill the world, enough to make us live
