A Kind Word

Feed my soul with words of kindness
To let it live through arid times
May it not in storms all wither
Perish hungry soul and mind

Piercing cold the wind keeps blowing
And I draw my shawl so tight
Struggle through the darkened hour
Brambles stretching thorns in sight

Could there be a light to lead me
I must ask, for signs to hope
Narrow is the path I’ve chosen
Careful steps, a downward slope

Would so much that you were with me
But this path is mine alone
Muster courage to continue
Stumbling on uneven stones

Just a single word of kindness
Just a smile to get me by
It would make the path seem lighter
Make my efforts worth the try
